Scientists Crack the Genetic Codes of Two Common Cancer Types
December 18th, 2009
Although overall cancer death and incidence rates in the United States continue to drop, rates are up for certain types of cancer, including lung and melanoma (skin cancer), cancers that are generally harder to detect early. But a new cancer breakthrough may soon change that. For the first time, scientists have been able to map the genetic codes for melanoma and lung cancer in their entirety—which is sure to lead to better diagnostic tests and much more specific and effective treatments for two of the most deadly forms of cancer.
