Cancer and the Presidential Candidates
Putting their rhetoric aside, let’s look at their records when it comes to leadership in cancer treatment and prevention. A search of cancer related bills sponsored in the Senate by each candidate revealed one for McCain, and several proposals from both Obama and Clinton.
Obama has sponsored or cosponsored bills to accelerate genomics research (S 976), enable states to develop or expand activities to monitor exposure to environmental toxins and pollutants (S 1068), and improve biomarkers for the early detection and screening of ovarian cancer (S 2569).
Senator Clinton has sponsored or cosponsored bills to provide education on the health consequences of exposure to secondhand smoke (S 2005), support Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month (S Res 222), ask the President to declare lung cancer a public health priority (S Res 87), require health plans to provide coverage for a minimum hospital stay for mastectomies, lumpectomies, and lymph node dissection for the treatment of breast cancer (S 459), and amend the Safe Drinking Water Act to protect the health of susceptible populations from trichloroethylene a probable carcinogen (S.1911).

Although I am an Obama supporter at heart … without funds … I recognize that Sen. Clinton has shown activity in Trichloroethylene and its relationship to cancer of all the soft organs. I have followed that as I have been fighting for the VA to take claim for the damage I now have in my soft organs … including my brain … and yes, virtually all of them. The VA claims that it is normal “damage due to old age”. I am 64 but was heavily exposed to TCE in my Crypto/TTY responsibilities as NCOIC with my desk next to the degreaser and even often had my arms in the vat of TCE. For 3 years. I breathed the fumes for 60 hours per week and have had all the symptoms but did not know the scope until my doctor pointed out that my soft organs were heavily damaged and wanted to know why, for example I did not tell her that I have had TB (which I did not). My lymph nodes keep me awake at night as it hurts to lie on them Etc Etc etc. And I expect to die soon of “old age” … and the etc’s. It would help if the VA soon took charge of my health as it should and declare me more than “0 disabled due to military duty.” Whoever gets elected has a massive collosal job in picking up the pieces behind this nefarious administration and whether I ever get help or not … Thanks for trying.
