Reporting in the Nov. 7 issue of Journal of the National Cancer Institute, researchers explained that the virus, Seneca Valley Virus-001 (SVV-001), was effective in treating lines of cells from small-cell lung cancer and some pediatric cancers, as well as lung cancer and eye cancer in immune-deficient mice.

Co announces that Intae Lee with the University of Pennsylvania has reported that Alfacell’s Onconase could be a promising radiation sensitizer for lung cancer treatment. Lee presented the pre- clinical in vivo data at the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology 49th Annual Meeting. Lee provided pre-clinical evidence that Onconase significantly increased the radiation-induced tumor growth delay of lung tumors in vivo without increases in skin reaction compared to radiation alone.

Pfizer is currently investigating PF-3512676 in combination with non-cytotoxic anti-cancer agents. A Phase II clinical trial evaluating PF-3512676 in combination with Tarceva(R) for the treatment of refractory non-small cell lung cancer, and a Phase I clinical trial evaluating PF-3512676 in combination with Pfizer’s anti-CTLA4 antibody, tremelimumab, for the treatment of advanced melanoma are both underway. Pfizer is currently planning additional clinical trials with PF-3512676 to evaluate its safety and potential efficacy in other cancer indications.
