Cancer survivor and nurse enjoys rapid pace of ER
Working in triage also helps Monroe manage her health. Diagnosed in September 2001 with Stage IV bronchioalaveolar carcinoma - a lung cancer not connected to smoking - she has had five surgeries that have rendered her lungs to 40 percent capacity. When the cancer returned in December 2005, Monroe had a fifth surgery. Since then, she said she has a clean bill of health and is due for scans in November to make sure the cancer is still gone.
