Roche says EU approves Avastin for lung cancer

avastin.jpgThe European Union has approved Swiss drugmaker Roche Holding AG’s Avastin for use in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), Roche said on Friday.

Cancer resource center memorializes doctor

Kmetzo.jpgIt was 13 years ago that Dr. Richard W. Kmetzo, 42, developed an aggressive form of lung cancer and died. There was seemingly no reason at all. The bright optometrist from Stratford was a nonsmoker. He was active, had a young family, and everything to live for. Back then, Kmetzo’s medical training helped him and his family navigate the difficult questions and concerns raised by a diagnosis of cancer. Now, in his memory, there is a first-floor resource center at Bridgeport Hospital’s Norma F. Pfriem Cancer Institute to help anyone in the same situation.
