Journalist fighting cancer dies in bed

Sakir Süter.jpgSüter, 57, had been fighting lung cancer for over two years. “All possible treatment methods had been exhausted,” Professor Adnan Aydıner from the Çapa School of Medicine Oncology Department said. “He had not been responding to treatment for the past three months,” Aydıner explained. Funeral services for Süter will be held tomorrow since his family agreed to requests for a one-day delay from many parliamentary deputies who were worried they would miss Süter’s funeral because of today’s presidential election.

Good News to Cancer Patients — Metabolic Research and Cornerstone Pharmaceuticals Conduct a New Animal Study

brazilian mushrooms.jpgMetabolic Research, Inc. announced today that an animal study conducted in cooperation with Cornerstone Pharmaceuticals, Inc. of Cranbury, NJ, confirmed that “ABL-SA” protein found in a Brazilian mushroom (a key component in Metabolic Research’s Polimmune supplement) is effective in avidly binding to particularly aggressive lung cancer cells called H460, in mice.

An apple a day still good medicine

apple.jpgThe preventive effect of apples is not, however, limited to digestive tract cancers. A study conducted among 125,000 Americans showed people who regularly consumed one apple a day had 20 per cent less chances of developing lung cancer. A similar protection has also been observed in Finland.

This was no bad joke. Lung cancer had spread throughout S.W. Bardwell’s body. When he told his doctors he at least wanted to make it through Thanksgiving so he could enjoy one last family gathering, they shook their heads and offered no encouragement.

Former Justice McAnulty dies of cancer

mcanulty.jpgFormer Kentucky Supreme Court Justice William McAnulty died Thursday night after fighting lung cancer that had spread to his brain.

McAnulty, 59, was the first African-American to serve on Kentucky’s Supreme Court, representing Jefferson County. Gov. Ernie Fletcher appointed McAnulty to fill a vacancy created when Justice Martin Johnstone retired in June 2006, and then he was elected to the high court the following November. McAnulty resigned his position earlier this month, and during his 30-plus year career, had served at every level of the state court system.
