Quitting smokers may see soaring savings

money.jpgMore than a third of the United Kingdom’s 10 million smokers say they plan to quit the habit Sunday when new anti-smoking laws take effect.Lloyds TSB Savings Bank said its survey suggests the 40 percent of British smokers going through 20 cigarettes a day will save about $4,000 annually.

Medress, vocalist on Tokens’ ‘Lion’ hit, dies of lung cancer

tokens.jpg Hank Medress, whose vocals with the doo wop group the Tokens helped propel their irrepressible single “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” to the top of the charts and who produced hits with other groups, has died of lung cancer. He was 68.

Cancer patients denied drugs

Lung cancer drug Tarceva is free to patients in Scotland but Cumbria Primary Care Trust will not pay for it because it has not been approved by the national health watchdog.

Lifelong smoker blames asbestos for lung cancer, sues 62 corporations

Blevins2.jpgAttorney Bryan Blevins of Provost Umphrey has filed a suit on behalf of refinery worker Mark McCall against A.O. Smith and 61 other corporations for distributing asbestos containing products.The plaintiff smoked cigarettes for 36 years and has lung cancer.

Pfizer Discontinues Its Development Program In Lung Cancer For PF-3512676

lc3.jpgPfizer Inc. announced that it has discontinued its development program in lung cancer for PF-3512676, an investigational compound, in combination with cytotoxic chemotherapy. This includes two Phase 3 clinical trials and two Phase 2 clinical trials.
