Walk to raise money for cancer research

walk.jpg“Judy’s Walk” is named for Binghamton High School teacher Judy Talbot, who died of lung cancer in 2005. The event will benefit the Michael E. Connolly Endowment for Lung Cancer Research. Connelly, a former student of Mrs. Talbot, died of lung cancer in 2002.

Scientists develop diagnostic tools for mesothelioma

lung.jpgRosetta Genomics Ltd. announced April 23 that it has partnered with the New York University Medical Center with the aim of developing a line of early detection diagnostic products for lung and mesothelioma cancers. 

 

The early detection test will mainly target more than 45 million Americans who are at an increased risk of lung cancer due to smoking, as well as those who have been exposed to asbestos fibers. The test will utilize Rosetta Genomics’ proprietary protocol to extract microRNAs from a simple blood draw.

Jazz Pianist Andrew Hill Dies Of Lung Cancer

andrew hill.jpgAndrew Hill, a jazz pianist who played with some of the genre’s biggest legends, died on Friday of lung cancer. He was 75.Hill’s death was announced in a statement by Blue Note Records, with whom the pianist recorded for 44 years.

Pharmacyclics Announces FDA Filing of New Drug Application for Xcytrin(R) Injection to Treat Lung Cancer Brain Metastases

research.jpgPharmacyclics, Inc. today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has filed the company’s New Drug Application (NDA) for Xcytrin(R) (motexafin gadolinium) Injection. The Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) date for completion of review by FDA is December 31, 2007. The Company is seeking approval to market the drug for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with brain metastases (i.e., cancer that has spread to the brain from another part of the body).
