A longer, less intense course of radiotherapy provides better value for the money than a shorter, more intense regimen when given to ease pain and other complaints in patients with late-stage non–small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), according to a study in the December 20 issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

Many lung cancer patients who smoke will pick up the habit again after treatment, usually within the first two months after surgery, a new study shows.However, the longer the patients can hold off after surgery before smoking again, the more likely they are to be completely abstinent from cigarettes by 12 months after the operation, Dr. Mark S.
